IBM is bringing the Arm compute platform to future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems through its first dual-architecture processor, expanding Arm into mission-critical enterprise computing.

Designed to natively execute both IBM and Arm instructions, the processor will bring Arm-native Linux environments directly to IBM Z and LinuxONE, alongside existing enterprise workloads.

The collaboration will connect IBM Z and LinuxONE customers to Arm’s ecosystem of more than 22 million software developers and expand access to Arm-native software.

“IBM’s decision to bring Arm compute and its software ecosystem to Z and LinuxONE reflects a broader shift: software built and optimized for Arm across modern cloud and AI infrastructure is extending into the next generation of mission-critical enterprise computing. This combination brings that software momentum together with the security, reliability and scale enterprises have long expected from IBM – and signals where the industry is going next.”
